What Are the Different Seats in Poker Called?
Different Seats in Poker
Poker is a very interesting game similar to the live casino malaysia because it has a lot of different variations and a maximum of 10 players can play at a time. If you want to know the best possible positions, then you’re in for a treat!
In this article, I will go over the different position names that you need to know about. But before I start, I want you to know that there are three main positions in the game: early, middle, and late. Therefore, I am going to divide each section by the major positions to make it easier for you.
So, without further ado, let’s get started!
To start with, I hope that you’re already familiar with the dealer as this is very important for us to consider. That being said, the early position is just the four seats that are directly placed to the left of the big blind.
1. Small Blind
This position is the seat directly to the left of the dealer (or the button).
The small blind is the position where you will be the one to act second to the last, but you are the first one to make a move in the subsequent rounds.
The small blind is actually considered the worst position in the table simply because you have to pay money blind for sitting here and you will be the first one to make the moves after the first round.
2. Big Blind
This position is situated to the direct left of the small blind. The position is considerably better than the first one, but this is still a bad place to be in. If you are here, you have to lose as little as possible.
3. Under the Gun
The next seat left of the big blind is the UTG or the Under the Gun position. This person is quite unlucky because they will be the one to act first in the game.
4. Under the Gun (Subsequent)
In some games where the table gets filled with players, the next position left of the under the gun will be designated as UTG +1, UTG + 2, and so on.
In this segment, you rarely associate any unique names. Sometimes, they are often only referred to as the Under the gun position (+1, 2, 3), early middle, late middle positions.
The final three positions are considered to be the luckiest of the bunch.
The position situated two seats to the right of the dealer is known as the Hijack. The position is called as such because most of the players here would often try to steal the blinds before the two remaining players can make a move.
This position is situated just directly to the right of the dealer. The Cutoff is the one that will “cut” the cards when the deal is passed around.
Also known as the “button”, the dealer is arguably the most advantageous position in the game.
The dealer will be the last one to act, meaning, you have already gained information that you need to secure the victory.
In a classic home game of poker, you will be the dealer if you possess the deck of cards. In an official casino or card room game, you will be given a big plastic disc signifying that you are the dealer of the game.
